Tips to Identify the Correct Verbs for Class 3 Students:-
Identify the Word Changing with Time (Tense)
The simplest method of finding the verb in a sentence is to change the time (tense) and identify the changing word. For example, Maths seems as the most challenging subject. If you add (last year) and write the sentence, ‘seem’ would change to ‘seemed,’ which means it is the verb.
Rule Out the Quality of the Defined Words in a Sentence
The second method to find a verb in a sentence or a long paragraph is to decide the quality the word dictates, i.e., is it displaying an action, helping, or linking? For example, ‘Lay him down on the ground.’ The sentence defines the action of laying a person. Therefore, lay is the verb. Similarly, having a migraine doesn’t display an action but shows a link between the person with the problem and the problem. So, ‘has’ is the verb.
Check the Word Resonating the Subject Form
Another method of finding a verb is checking which word has the same form as the subject and changes with it. For example, a singular subject always has a singular verb, and a plural subject has a plural verb. A plural verb is also used when a sentence has two or more connected pronouns or nouns.
